మూత్రంలో సిస్టీన్ ఉండటం తరచుగా అమైనో ఆమ్లాల పునఃశోషణ లోపాలను సూచిస్తుంది. కుక్కలలో సిస్టినూరియా (Cystinuria) సంభవిస్తుందని నివేదించబడింది.[13] మానవులలో అధిక స్థాయి సిస్టీన్ స్ఫటికాల విసర్జన సిస్టినోసిస్ (cystinosis) అనే అరుదైన జన్యు వ్యాధిని సూచిస్తుంది. పెద్దలలో మూత్రపిండాల్లో రాళ్ల వ్యాధిలో సిస్టీన్ రాళ్లు సుమారు 1-2% ఉంటాయి.[14][15]
