Shorter Oxford English Dictionary
# "ఒక మొక్క, దీని కాండం చెట్టు లేదా పొద వలె గట్టిగా (చెక్కలా) మారదు, కానీ మెత్తగా మరియు రసభరితంగా ఉంటుంది, మరియు పుష్పించిన తర్వాత (పూర్తిగా లేదా వేరు వరకు) చనిపోతుంది";
# "రుచి కోసం లేదా సువాసన కోసం, వైద్యంలో మొదలైన వాటిలో ఉపయోగించే (తరచుగా సుగంధభరితమైన) మొక్క". (చూడండి: Herb)

# "హెర్బ్ స్వభావాన్ని కలిగి ఉండటం; ముఖ్యంగా చెక్క వంటి కాండం ఏర్పడకుండా ప్రతి సంవత్సరం వేరు వరకు చనిపోవడం";
# "<small>BOTANY</small> రంగు లేదా ఆకృతిలో ఆకును పోలి ఉండటం. వ్యతిరేకం స్కారియస్".

కొన్ని ఆర్కిడ్లు, ఉదాహరణకు Phalaenopsis జాతులు, కొన్ని మూలాల్లో (అధికారిక Plants of the World Onlineతో సహా) "హెర్బ్స్"గా వర్ణించబడ్డాయి, కానీ "ఆకులు శాశ్వతంగా లేదా కొన్నిసార్లు రాలిపోయేవి" అని పేర్కొనబడ్డాయి.<ref name="China">Phalaenopsis.
